I look down at the woman before me, her eyes closed. Her skin is a pale pink, her hair waves of gold as they rest on the pillow around her head. She has been like this for a few days, sound asleep and not moving a bit. At least, that’s what the fairies say.
I remember seeing her when her eyes were open, beautiful blue pools. We had a conversation that day about dreams and wishes but after that I could never find her again. She seemed to be hiding from me or maybe the fairies were the ones keeping her safe. Now they need her back though and have seeked me to do it.
I’m not exactly sure why they would because a true love’s kiss is needed to break the spell. I barely know this girl before me, fast asleep because of a witch’s curse. But now I’m here and now that I see her I want to break it. I want to get to know her even if she’s not a princess. I want to understand her interests, her personality, her real dreams.
So I slowly lean down and give her a gentle kiss on the cheek. A full kiss seems too personal, too invasive. The fairies complain as I come back to a sitting potion, waiting for this girl to wake. Nothing seems to happen though. I sigh, standing to exit the room.
“Phillip?” I turn to two blue eyes, now open. A perfect smile to match.
“It worked,” I say with a grin, walking back to her. “I broke the curse.”
